New Job, New Adventures, New Home

I'm up to week six of the move to South Australia, and I've started my new role. The team has been incredibly welcoming, and I'm already involved in some fascinating projects that are challenging me in all the right ways. I look forward to seeing what I can make of this role, and the value I can add.

I wish I could say that development on the fitness app with Ethan was progressing well. Sadly we've had a falling out and haven't spoken in a few weeks. Losing a close friend is always a blow. Especially when it comes at the same time as restarting life from scratch in a new city. But we move.

My personal software engineering journey continues. I can at least thank him for starting that off for me. I'm currently building this blog using React, Vite, TypeScript, and Tailwind. It's been a challenge, but I'm learning so much through the process of building something practical. I've also started integrating Python into my workflow in building scripts and automations for work. That is alongside re-familiarising myself with Microsoft's suite of products which the enterprise I've joined uses, after being a pure Mac user in my personal life and business ventures for years!

Reading has fallen somewhat by the wayside in finding my feet in the new role and the new city, but I'm meditating more which is good. Not daily yet, but I'm building up to it. I'm finding it complements the Stoic philosophy of Marcus Aurelius in unexpected ways. Both focus on the importance of small, consistent actions in shaping who we become.

Since the ~2000km motorbike ride over to Adelaide my upper back has been giving me some trouble, so I'm not back to regular jiu-jitsu yet. I've done one class in six weeks. Boo. I have a decent gym routine established though, and I'm practicing patience. Letting the dust settle before asking too much of myself. That's a challenge for me, and it's one I'm embracing.
